Open Door Pedagogy Network

About the ODPN

The Open Door Pedagogy Network is a network of faculty in CLA departments who are available to colleagues for informal conversations about teaching. It provides resources, holds events and activities, and works with CLA administration to support open inquiry and inclusive pedagogy in CLA.

The ODPN helps teachers connect with teachers for support, community, and mentorship. Teachers of all ranks, including graduate student teachers and assistants, are encouraged to reach out to ODPN members for casual conversation and advice, especially in relation to inclusion, academic freedom, and handling challenging classroom situations.

About the Network

The Open Door Pedagogy Network began in fall 2020 and aims to foster community, mentorship, and mutual support by providing infrastructure for teachers connecting with teachers in CLA. It supports faculty who might be wrestling with a specific problem or incident, and also “supports the supporters” with a college-wide conversation on the nuances of powerful and equitable teaching. The Network also holds discussion series, workshops, and other events around key themes and challenges in today’s academic contexts.

The Open Door Pedagogy Network emphasizes that we are all at different stages on our paths, and its members offer judgement-free support for improving practice, awareness, and knowledge. It aims to support the cultivation of inclusive, equitable, and open learning environments and teaching practices to support faculty’s and students’ academic freedom in the classroom.

Regular check-ins for members to share ideas, issues, trends, and inspirations are held every semester, and throughout the academic year, training opportunities supported by the Dean's office are also made available to them.

The ODPN members consist of established faculty who commit to staying up-to-date on teaching methods and approaches; who are available to their colleagues to drop in and discuss these kinds of issues; and who share ideas, experiences, and information with other colleagues across the College.

Network members provide opportunities for informal conversations only. They do not provide official determinations about CSU policy, legal advice, grievances, or formal action.

Are you interested in becoming an ODPN member? Reach out to the Network Coordinator, Rosa Mikeal Martey, rosa.martey@colostate.edu, for more information.
