Hometown: Houston, Texas
Education: B.S. in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability from Colorado State University
Research Interests: Environmental Justice and Social Justice, particularly for the migrant and domestic farmworker communities in the U.S. My focus throughout the program has centered around the H-2A visa program, U.S. Farm Bills, and the proposed Farm Workforce Modernization Act, and learning all I can about these policies (proposed and enacted), in an effort to understand how future policy could be shaped to promote justice for migrant farmworker communities, their families, and farmers themselves.
First Generation Story
I am a proud first-gen student and have overcome many obstacles on my journey to and through higher education. Having not been able to attend high school, I was sure that college was out of my reach for many years of my youth and young adult life. I feel that my experience of growing up in a working class, low-income family, and working in the service industry for over a decade in various forms, has gifted me a unique perspective to bring to the table. I'm beyond grateful for all the support and encouragement I've received from friends, family, and colleagues along the way and would not be where I am today without them. It's been a long journey but I am thrilled to have come this far in academia and am looking forward to serving my community through my career after graduation.
