Community Meet & Greet: Dr. Susan Brower-Toland

The CSU Department of Philosophy invites our local faith and secular community members to join us for a Meet & Greet with each of the four finalists for the Willette Professorship in Catholic Studies. All engagement events will be held in the Seminar Room of the Smith Alumni Center (701 W. Pitkin St, Canvas Stadium).

On Thursday, March 31, we welcome Dr. Susan Brower-Toland, Associate Professor of Philosophy at Saint Louis University.

Professor Brower-Toland’s research and published work lies in medieval philosophy, philosophy of religion, and philosophical theology (in the Christian tradition). She has a particular focus on later-medieval discussions in metaphysics and the philosophy of mind, often with special interest in William Ockham’s contribution to these topics.

Professor Brower-Toland is a central figure in the NEH and Mellon funded Philosophy as a Way of Life Project, which asks us to “think deeply and ambitiously about the good life,” in bringing philosophy out of the academy and into people’s lives. This project has shaped Dr Brower-Toland’s approach to teaching, research, and academics more generally.
