Biography

Noah Racey, an award-winning actor, director, choreographer, educator, and artistic director is the head of Musical Theatre at CSU.

As an actor, his Broadway credits include Curtains, Never Gonna Dance, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and  Follies. Television credits include  Boardwalk Empire,  Person of Interest, The Black List, and Are We There Yet?

As a director and choreographer, his Broadway credits include The Terms of My Surrender  (movement director) and Thoroughly Modern Millie  (associate choreographer for Rob Ashford, who won the Tony Award for Best Choreography). Noah has also choreographed for many regional theatres, including the 5th Avenue Theatre, Seattle's ACT, the Asolo Repertory Theatre, and Goodspeed Opera House (Winning the Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Choreography  for his productions of Show Boat and  Annie Get Your Gun). He choreographed the world premieres of It Shoulda Been You  (directed by David Hyde Pierce) and Turn of the Century  (Goodman Theatre, starring Jeff Daniels, directed by Tommy Tune).

As a writer, Noah is a published songwriter (Bad Case of Rhythm – National Tour of  Swing!). He is receiving raves for his solo memoir play entitled  Mountain Grove  (directed by Dick Scanlan), which premiered at Symphony Space in New York City, was included in Theatre Aspen’s Solo Flights Play Festival, and is now in discussions with backers for an off-Broadway run. Noah also conceived, wrote, choreographed, and starred in the 2013 World Premiere of  Noah Racey’s: PULSE  , Asolo Repertory Theatre, directed by Jeff Calhoun. The original work won rave reviews and an extended run.

In 2022, Noah was named associate artistic director of OpenStage Theatre & Company, helping to shape the next era of the oldest established Theatre Company in Fort Collins.

Noah is the founding artistic director of the New York Song & Dance Company. In addition to performances in New York’s top venues, including Carnegie Hall, The Allen Room at Lincoln Center, and Town Hall, NYSDCo has toured overseas in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy and conducted workshops with local artists and dance studios in such cities as Amman, Jordan, and Jerusalem.

In addition to starting CSU’s Musical Theatre program, Noah teaches master classes. He gives lectures and workshops for Yale University, the University of Michigan, Boston Conservatory, New York University, Elon University, and Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre Conservatory. He is a Boston Conservatory graduate and a proud product of—and strong proponent for— arts funding in public schools.
