Biography

Joy Eghosa-Ewone is a Ph.D. candidate and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Political Science at Colorado State University. Her research explores why some environmental policies in African countries succeed while others fail, focusing on how interactions between bottom-up local support and top-down international pressures shape policy implementation. Through comparative case studies of plastic bans, conservation initiatives, and renewable energy policies, she examines the conditions under which environmental policies achieve meaningful outcomes, contributing to debates on state capacity, governance, and international influence in African environmental politics.

Joy holds a master's degree in international relations from Cyprus International University and a bachelor's degree in English and Literary Studies from Delta State University, Nigeria. She brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her work, integrating political science, development studies, and environmental policy scholarship to analyze policy success and failure across diverse African contexts.

Outside of her academic work, Joy is passionate about community engagement. She has curated art exhibitions at CSU in 2024 and 2025, fostering cultural connections between the university and the broader Fort Collins community. She also volunteers with Rotaract CSU and local assisted living facilities. In her free time, Joy enjoys reading, traveling, and participating in projects that link scholarships with public outreach and environmental sustainability.
