Biography

Kate earned her B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Colorado State University. Before joining the College of Liberal Arts, she worked in the Provost’s Office and the Office of Budgets, where she supported universitywide budget operations. Kate now serves as the Accounting Technician II for the Art and Art History and Music, Theatre, and Dance departments. A proud first-generation graduate, she enjoys spending time outdoors in the warmer months and hibernating with a good show during the winter, recommendations always welcome!

First Generation Story

As a first-generation college graduate, my journey to get here means a lot to me. My parents had me young and didn’t have the chance to go to college while raising a family. Growing up, I watched how hard my mom worked, and while she always supported the idea of her daughters going to college, I didn’t always see it as something for me. I just wanted to help my family and contribute however I could. Everything changed my junior year of high school when I started really thinking about what I wanted for my future. I decided to push myself, and having my mom’s support gave me the courage to take that step. Starting college during COVID wasn’t easy, many friends I started with had to step away to support their families, but I stayed committed. My biggest motivation was my younger sister, who looked up to me and saw me as an example of what was possible. Four years later, I earned my degree, and now my sister is a student here at CSU too (secretly following in her cool sister’s footsteps). Looking back, I realize that I was able to help my family in a different way, by creating new opportunities and setting an example for the next generation. I’m proud of how far we’ve come and grateful for the strong foundation my family built for me to succeed.
