Biography
Dr. Nabile Galván, originally from Mexico, is an assistant professor of music at Colorado State University. Her research and teaching interests include bilingual music education, string pedagogy, preservice teacher experiences, and advocacy for the Latiné music education community. Her recent work examined Latiné first-generation students through a multiple-case qualitative study. Dr. Galván’s work has most recently been published in the NAfME Blog and the Journal of General Music Education. She has presented her research at international, national, and state conferences, including the Congreso Chileno de Investigación en Educación Musical, Mountain Lake Colloquium for Teachers of General Music Methods, American String Teacher Association National Conference, Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium, Instrumental Music Teachers Educators, Context Conference at Eastman School of Music, Kentucky Music Education Association, Indiana Music Education Association, and the Conference of Community Engaged Learning.
Dr. Galván is also an active clinician for public schools, community programs, and university-level string music education. Prior to her university teaching, she taught in Mexico and in middle school and high school orchestra programs in Texas, as well as in elementary, middle school, and outreach string orchestra programs in Indiana. During her time at Indiana University, she taught and coordinated string teachers for the Jacobs School of Music Virtual Academy (JVA), led the Fairview String Project, and collaborated with adult learners through JVA and New Horizons Orchestras. Her teaching experience spans from beginners as young as age three to adults and intergenerational string learners, reflecting her commitment to accessible, lifelong music education. Moreover, she has worked throughout the Americas to connect with a wide range of music education students.
She holds degrees from Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Texas State University, and Indiana University. Galván’s recent awards include the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Building Bridges Award. Nabile is dedicated to culturally grounded, community-based pedagogy. In her free time, she likely spends time with her husband and dog, Nube.
