History

Judith (Judy) A. Dean's first and great passion was teaching, and she spent 22 of her 49 years "educating children." After completing her undergraduate degree in English at the University of Illinois in 1972, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, a form of cancer. After gaining back her energy post-treatment, she graduated in 1978 with her Masters of Arts for Teachers degree from Colorado State University.

For the next 14 years, she perfected her skills at Berthoud High School in Berthoud, Colo. She also taught at Idaho Falls High School in Idaho and at Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico. Judy served two back-to-back terms as president for the Colorado Language Arts Society and several years on the executive committee of the Colorado Language Arts Society. Her long time friend and colleague, Dr. Bill McBride, described her as a "tireless worker and an incurable optimist. Judy's life and work were testimony to her strong commitment to her profession."
