Established in 1997, this scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Dr. Irvine and his colleagues, friends and former students.
Criteria
1) Speech Communication major with an interest and ability in any area of rhetorical or communication studies 2) Either an undergraduate senior with interest in M.A. study or a graduate student with interests in pursuing a Ph.D. 3) Cumulative 3.4 GPA
History
This scholarship honors Professor James (Jim) R. Irvine for outstanding teaching and advising during his thirty-two years at Colorado State University. Jim taught rhetoric at the undergraduate and graduate level. He served for 15 years as the director of graduate study, building the M.A. program into one of the best M.A.-only rhetoric programs in the United States. He was also named Honors Professor. His many advisees regard him as mentor and "friend".
