History

Pattie Cowell (B.A., Pacific Lutheran University; M.A., Ph.D. University of Massachusetts) was a faculty member in the English Department and is Associate Dean for Faculty and Graduate Studies in the College of Liberal Arts at Colorado State University. In addition to her teaching and scholarship in the literature program, she chaired the Women’s Studies Interdisciplinary Program and served on its advisory board for several years. She also taught in the American Studies Program. She chaired the English Department for ten years and in 2001 was named a University Distinguished Teaching Scholar. Her partner, Sheryl Pomering (B.S. in elementary education and M.S. in counselor education, Illinois State University), worked as Coordinator of Educational Programming and Leadership Development for Colorado State University’s Housing Program for more than two years and pursued a variety of community service jobs. Over the years, she worked as an elementary school teacher, an educational counselor, an educational coordinator for the Fort Collins Women’s Center, a counselor for displaced homemakers at the Larimer Vo-Tech Center and the owner/manager of an organic greenhouse.
