Biography

McKee’s main area is classical Theory of Knowledge.  He has made specialized and innovative applications of that field to philosophy of art and the psychology of late life cognitive development, and has published numerous scholarly books and essays integrating those areas.  Typical works include Philosophical Foundations of Gerontology,  Human Sciences Press, 1980, and the essays “Plato’s Theory of Late Life Reminiscence (Journal of Aging, Humanities, and the Arts, 2:3-4, 2008, 266–285) and “Transcendence in the Late Paintings of James Reynolds” Journal of Aging, Humanities and the Arts 4, 3, 2010 200-209.   McKee taught in the philosophy department for 56 years, from 1964 until retiring in 2020.   He served as Departmental Chair from 1980 through 1987.  In retirement he continues work on Plato’s theory of late life cognitive development and the theory of “late style” in art.
