Biography
Alyssia M. Miller, PhD, is Director of the Center for Languages for Specific Purposes Education and Research (CLEaR) at Colorado State University (CSU) and Associate Professor of Spanish for Specific Purposes in the Department of Languages and Global Studies (LGS) at CSU. She also serves as Director of Medical Spanish at the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the Anschutz Medical Campus and Fort Collins Branch. Dr. Miller was also named Chief Innovation Officer for the Center for Clinician Multilingualism and serves as Treasurer for the National Association of Medical Spanish. Dr. Miller’s research focuses on the development and assessment of linguistic and intercultural communicative competence in professional language education with a particular emphasis on Medical Spanish. Her work explores innovative approaches to evidence-based curricular design and assessment, simulation-based learning, and artificial intelligence in language learning and medical education to improve communication across languages and cultures in health care and other professional settings. Recently, her research has expanded to include interdisciplinary collaborations that apply neuroimaging to better understand language processing, learning, and effective communication in professional contexts. Through her research, teaching, and leadership, Dr. Miller works to advance language education to improve access, equity, and health outcomes for multilingual communities.
