Is self-care really the answer to burnout, anxiety, and stress?
The self-care movement in the United States has its roots in the idea that caring for ourselves through community, creativity, and cultural celebration is a radical act in the face of challenge and oppression. But today, it is a $10+ billion industry that often urges us to isolate, withdraw, and retreat rather than come together. We’ll discuss two short articles to help us explore past and current ideas about selfcare, from its origins in 1960s civil rights movements to its current focus on awareness and self-reliance.
