FoCo Book Fest is a free literary festival offering two days of author interviews, panels, keynotes, performances, writing workshops, readings, and other community activities at unique venues throughout Old Town Fort Collins.

Joshua Sbicca is speaking this Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11am at Old Firehouse Books, 232 Walnut St. He will discuss his new book Food Justice Now!  The United States is a nation of foodies and food activists, many of them progressives, and yet their overwhelming concern for what they consume often hinders their engagement with social justice more broadly. Joshua charts a path from food activism to social justice activism that integrates the two and calls on the food-focused to broaden and deepen their commitment to the struggle against structural inequalities both within and beyond the food system. Book sales and signing to follow.

Also this Saturday at Old Firehouse Books, Michael Carolan is speaking at 2pm about his recent book The Food Sharing Revolution.  In How Start-Ups, Pop-Ups, and Co-ops are Changing the Way We Eat, Michael shares the stories of traditional producers, who are being squeezed by big agribusiness, and entrepreneurs, who are bucking the corporate food system. He warns that food, just like taxis or hotels, can be co-opted by moneyed interests. But when collaboration is genuine, the sharing economy can offer both producers and eaters freedom, even sovereignty. The result is a healthier, more sustainable, and more ethical way to eat. Book sales and signing to follow.
