CSU Dance: State of Movement

CSU DANCE MISSION: Colorado State University Dance empowers students to be engaged, reflective, and resilient through challenging technical and artistic investigation, embodied practice, and progressive pedagogy. In keeping with our land-grant values, we strive to inspire and lead creative collaborations on campus and beyond through comprehensive dance practices.

As artists, educators, and scholars, CSU Dance strives to embody humility, compassion, and curiosity. We recognize the need for perpetual growth while honoring our historical and cultural legacies. In order to maintain our vitality, passion, and commitment to dance and dance education we will:

  • address current critical issues through performance, choreography, and pedagogy;
  • seek and practice innovative, equitable, and collaborative artistic and educational approaches;
  • serve diverse cultures through community engagement on a local, national, and international scale;
  • and take thoughtful risks in order to stay current and keep moving forward.

Welcome to Colorado State University Dance, where we offer a training center that prepares majors for professional careers in the field of dance. Dance students explore the many possibilities for movement expression, along with creative and scholarly examination, in a challenging and supportive environment. In addition to regular training in classical and contemporary dance techniques, the curriculum requires performance, choreography, pedagogy, production, and theoretical coursework. Numerous performance opportunities include five main stage productions each year and regular guest artist residencies and masterclasses.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.F.A.) is a professional education program designed to prepare students for careers in dance. The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Dance allows students to tailor their study of dance to fit their interests and is designed to prepare students for a variety of dance-related careers. The B.A. is designed for students wishing to double major in dance and another field.

Students not majoring in dance are encouraged to enroll in dance technique courses, space permitting. Any student enrolled in a dance technique class is eligible to audition for a role in a dance performance. Auditions for performances are held each semester.
