Dr. Alida V. Merlo is a professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her current research interests include juvenile justice, criminal justice policy, and women and the law.

Dr. Merlo’s most recent publications include The Juvenile Justice System: Delinquency, Processing and the Law (2013), 7th Edition, co-authored with Dean J. Champion and Peter J. Benekos. Controversies in Juvenile Justice and Delinquency (2009) 2nd Edition, coedited with Dr. Peter J. Benekos; Crime Control, Politics, and Policy (2006), 2nd Edition, co-authored with Dr. Peter J. Benekos; and Women, Law & Social Control (2006), 2nd Edition, co-edited with Dr. Joycelyn M. Pollock. She also co-authored two book chapters and five articles that appeared in Youth Justice, Women & Criminal Justice, the Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal Justice, The International Journal of Police Science and Management, and the Turkish Journal of Police Studies during the last three years.

Dr. Merlo is the past president of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. She is the recipient of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Fellow Award, Founder’s Award, and the Outstanding Mentor Award. Dr. Merlo serves on the editorial board of Crime and Delinquency, the International Journal of Police Science and Management, and Women & Criminal Justice.
