The Colorado State University Costume Shop is a 4188 sq. foot laboratory where students explore design, construction, technology, and maintenance of costumes, in addition to organization, teaching, storage, cleaning, repair, costume crafts, fabric and textile manipulation, and portfolio readiness. The workroom features 16 Bernina sewing machines, 2 industrial sewing machines, 8 sergers, 2 industrial sergers, industrial irons, cutting tables, and a fitting room. The theatre costume inventory stocks both contemporary and period costumes as well as dance and opera pieces. Additionally, the craft room is used for construction of all costume pieces that require more than a sewing machine. Belts, hats, and shoes are made or altered, and dyeing, painting, distressing, and other techniques are used on existing pieces. The space contains washers, dryers, a large worktable, and storage for art/distressing supplies, make-up, and wigs. Our theatre houses two dressing rooms, each with ten spacious individual counters, excellent lighting for makeup application, and ample space for costume racks. The intercom provides a live stage feed and direct communication with stage management; restrooms include shower facilities.
