Biography

Rudy received his B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy, as well as his M.A. in Political Science from Florida International University. Rudy is a first-generation Cuban-American, who emigrated to the U.S. at seven years old, born in Cuba, and raised in Miami, FL. Rudy's research interests fall within a Western Marxist approach, concentrating on a framework constructed in understanding the historical process that contributes to the promulgation of advanced capitalism. In addition, the theoretical traditions of Critical Theory, Poststructural Marxism, Postcolonialism, and Psychoanalysis are particular frameworks that he will utilize to complement environmental politics in his research.

First Generation Story

I am the first person in my immigrant family to graduate with a Bachelors's and Master's degree and pursue a Ph.D. in political science. I was born in Cuba and immigrated when I was seven years old; my interests in politics developed from my Cuban culture. My interests in education developed much later in life due to the structural hardships and lack of information and structures to help guide me. Luckily college provided a framework and space for my ideas and direction to grow. Now, my passion for learning and growth is a profound value in my education.
