Biography

John’s first degree was in Environmental Studies from CU Boulder in 2000. After that, he traveled and lived around the world for five years before enrolling at CSU to attain a B.A. in Spanish Language, Literature and Cultures (2005) and an M.Ed. (2006), while racing with the Rams Cycling team (his signature is on the 2004 jersey in the CSU library staircase). After that, he taught English in Puebla, Mexico with his future wife, Colleen, before returning to Fort Collins. Since then, he has taught Spanish and French at Loveland High School (CO), and coordinated the IB programme there for the six years. John has always been interested in climate change and mitigation policies, and 2019 was a watershed year for renewable energy and climate policy, so joined the POLS department to get the skills to launch into a career in environmental policy. In addition to pursuing an MA in Political Science, John is also a candidate for the Certificate of Carbon Management from CSU.

John's research focus is on energy policy and the Colorado electric utilities. His goal is to work in policy development, advocacy, and/or diffusion in the electricity sector.
