Biography
RESEARCH: Zapatista Healthcare in a Civilian Targeted Warfare Zone
TEACHING: ETST 255 Native American History, ETST 240 Native American Cultural Expressions, ETST 205 Ethnicity and the Media, ETST 100 Introduction to Ethnic Studies
Julie Ann Sullivan is a Special Instructor for the Department of Ethnic Studies. She also serves as a KEY Service Community facilitator and as the Academic Director for the Iraqi Young Leaders Program for Undergraduate Students in the Department of International Programs. Her academic interests include gender and ethnicity in media, Native American history, culture, and sustainable development, and the complex issue of the provision of healthcare to Indigenous populations in low intensity warfare zones. Julie has been conducting research and working with the Zapatista autonomous health care system in Chiapas, Mexico since 2005. She also works with Lakota tribal members and service learning students on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
