Graduate Teaching Assistant



Amanda Martinek is an M.S. student in the Journalism and Media Communication department at Colorado State University. Born and raised in Southern California, she received a BA in Communications and Creative Writing from UC San Diego in 2012.

She spent the past six years working for the digital marketing start-up agency 85SIXTY as the Director of Social Media. With a passion for live music and writing, she was the Editor in Chief and a staff writer for San Diego based music publication ListenSD from 2013 – 2017. For fun, she is an avid hiker, traveler, and writer, hosting a monthly storytelling event called DimeStories at the Forge Publick House (2nd Wednesday of the month).

Her research interests include environmental communication, social movements and political activism communication. Her current research focuses on corporate branding of climate change, public land and sustainability activism messaging on social media.

In the future, she is considering pursuing a PhD, working for a government agency or diving back into the PR / social media / marketing industry.
