Dancing from Lagos to La Chorrera

Concert Orchestra performs works by William Grant Still (often referred to as the “Dean of Afro-American Composers”) and Nkeiru Okoye, best known for her orchestral work “Voices Shouting Out” in commemoration of the first anniversary of 9/11. Concert Orchestra Conductor Leslie Stewart will lead the ensemble in Still’s “Danzas de Panama.” Okoye’s “Dancing Barefooot in the Rain” (from her “African Sketches”) will be conducted by Andrew Mendizabal, orchestral graduate teaching assistant.
