Peter Bond was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra from 1992-2020. Prior to his appointment to the “Met,” he was principal trumpet of the New Mexico Symphony, and before that, a busy freelance musician in Atlanta where he played a wide variety of engagements. Mr. Bond has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the NYC Ballet, NYC Opera, Atlanta Symphony, Atlanta Ballet, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, and is in demand as a soloist and clinician. These days, Mr. Bond is back in New Mexico where he teaches and is once again freelancing. He is the author of a unique and acclaimed method book, The Singing Trumpet published by Carl Fischer.
Bill Pfund received his Bachelor of Music from the Dana School of Music of Youngstown University and his Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. He has studied trumpet with Esotto Pellegrini, principal trumpet with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and Roger Voisin, former principal trumpet with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Author of The Trumpeter's Pedagogical Guide, Bill Pfund’s Beginning Trumpet Method, Bill Pfund’s Intermediate Trumpet Method, and Bill Pfund’s Problem Solving Exercises. Mr. Pfund has conducted studies regarding the relationship of tooth position to a trumpeter's range, endurance, and tone quality. Mr. Pfund has been a regular member of the Youngstown University Faculty Brass Quintet, the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, and The United States Army Band, Pershing’s Own, Washington, D.C. Professor Pfund has taught at Youngstown University and The University of Nebraska at Omaha. He is retired from The University of Northern Colorado, as professor emeritus, and has played principal trumpet with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and the Rocky Mountain Brass Quintet for more than 30 years. Professor Pfund was the 1990 recipient of the Lucile M. Harrison award as outstanding teacher of the year at UNC. Mr. Pfund has been active with the International Trumpet Guild since its beginning; he has served two terms as vice president, and was president from 2007 to 2009. He has given trumpet master classes and/or performances in Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Thailand, Russia, and China. Mr. Pfund continues to be active as a soloist, performer, lecturer, and maintains a private trumpet studio in Greeley, Colorado.
Denver jazz musician, Gabriel Mervine, began to play professionally at age 13. He attended the University of Colorado at Boulder for jazz studies but numerous offers for playing gigs drew him into performance, and he followed that path instead. He has studied with professional musicians such as Bobby Shew, Roger Ingram, and Greg Gisbert. His musical inspirations and influences are Clifford Brown, Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, and Lee Morgan, and, of course, Clark Terry. Asked who he feels he sounds like, he replies, “I sound like me” and adds that creating his own sound is an important goal. He has worked with, among many others, Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, Chie Imaizumi, Maceo Parker, and Roberta Gamborini. He leads his own groups with whom he creates modern, original works. He has been active with Motet, an American funk, Afrobeat and jazz-influenced group.
Three Gabriel Mervine-led CDs are available. He carries them to all his gigs, and they are carried at Twist & Shout and other local music stores. On Amazon, individual tunes can be downloaded. The CDs are named People, Places, and Things.
