SUMMARY:Jeff Kasser joins Science on Tap panel at Avo’s on May 29
DESCRIPTION:Please join Jeff Kasser\, along with Ben Prytherch (Statistics)
and Emily Hardegree-Ullman (Physics)\, for a Science on Tap panel at Avo
gadro’s Number in Fort Collins at 5:30 pm on Wednesday\, May 29th.\n\nT
he event commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first real experimental
confirmation of the general theory of relativity. Eddington and his team
used a total eclipse to measure the deflection of light from distant stars
by the sun’s gravitational field. Emily will explain general relativity
and why it involved this experimental implication\, Ben will discuss the
data and the sense in which it confirmed Einstein’s theory\, and Jeff wi
ll discuss Popper’s use of the experiment\, highlighting issues about fa
 lsification\, confirmation\, and rational reconstruction.\n\nCome for the
 beer\, stay for the science!
