 m 302\nThe past decade has been a very exciting and tumultuous time in sch
 olarly publishing. Against a backdrop of declining sales for scholarly mon
 ographs in the humanities &amp\; social sciences (HSS)\, ebooks arrived wi
 th a bang in 2007 (Amazon launched the first e-ink Kindles) and Open Acces
 s (OA) digital publishing—a movement that originated in the journals are
 na—is gaining traction in the book publishing space. For HSS scholars wh
 o have to publish books for tenure &amp\; promotion\, what does this all m
 ean?\nJoin Darrin Pratt\, Director of the University Press of Colorado (UP
 C) for a discussion of current trends in academic publishing\, including t
 he impact of ebooks and OA initiatives\, as well as an overview of what sc
 holarly publishers are looking for and how authors can improve their chanc
 es of publication. In addition\, Darrin will discuss career paths in schol
 arly publishing for students who may want to stay involved with the academ
 ic world without actually becoming an academic. \nDarrin Pratt has been Di
 rector of UPC since 2000\, and he is a past President of the Association o
 f\nUniversity Presses (2016-2017). In addition to a unique collaborative v
 enture between University Press of Colorado and Utah State University Pres
