A Fort Collins Book Event

Panel Discussion

We are the West: A Colorado Anthology is a collection of more than forty literary voices, representative of the spirit and experience of Colorado. Featuring fiction, nonfiction, essay, poetry, and visual art, the anthology is an exciting introduction to the next generation of diverse Colorado storytelling.

In this session, featured Fort Collins writers Maz BangsHeather Hein, and Sarah Reichert will talk about their own Colorado stories and, in doing so, help us reimagine the character and make-up of the modern West.

About the writers

Maz Bangs is a poet and writer from Fort Collins, Colorado where she lives with her two children. A Colorado State University alum where she received her degree in Social Work, she was nominated for the Pushcart Prize in 2022, and is a contributor to the “We are the West” anthology of poetry by Twenty Bellows Publications. She is also the author of ‘The Lost Stories’, a collection of short stories that re-imagine popular tales from a fresh and new perspective. Her work touches upon love, loss, memories and life through her eyes.

Heather Hein is the Creative Programs Coordinator for the Writing Heights Writers Association and an Event Host for the Fort Collins Chapter of Shut Up and Write. She has published several short stories, most recently in Twenty Bellows: We Are the West for which she received a nomination for the 2022 Push Cart Prize. She has published five stories on Amazon Kindle Vella and is currently seeking representation for two full-length novels. When not writing, she enjoys trail running, camping, and spending time with her family and her dog. Her husband of 28 years serves as her greatest muse, confidante, and unofficial editor.

Sarah Reichert (S.E. Reichert) is a writer, novelist, poet and blogger.  She is the author of the Southtown Harbor Series and is a member of the Northern Colorado Writers. Her work has been featured in The Fort Collins Coloradoan, Haunted Waters Press, “Sunrise Summits: A Poetry Anthology”, “Rise: An Anthology of Change”, Poetry Ireland Review, and “We Are The West: A Colorado Anthology” among other journals across the country. Her novella, “Saturn Rising” was recently produced as a five-part audiocast from Ngano Press Studios, and she recently signed a 3-book contract with 5 Prince Publishing for release in 2023.

She is the head writer of The Beautiful Stuff, a blog about writing and fostering a creative and balanced life. Reichert lives in Fort Collins with her family. In her non-writing hours, she is a mother to two teenage girls and is an instructor and 2nd degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate JuJitsu.
