Rekindle the Classics The Secret River Event Slide

We hope you can join us for our last spring 2019 Rekindle the Classics book group next Thursday, May 16th, from 6:30-8:30 pm at Wolverine Publick House (316 Willow Street).

Ellen Brinks will be leading a discussion of Kate Grenville’s historical fiction The Secret River (2005). The Secret River garnered the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for fiction, as well as many other awards; it was a watershed moment in Australian literature, and it stirred up tremendous controversy among historians and the general public about the nature of Australia’s settlement and its devastating impact on indigenous peoples and the environment. We’re going to dig deeper into the depiction of colonial history and historiography, as well as the novel’s complicated reception history.

Members of the wider Fort Collins, in partnership with our local library and CSU English, will exchange ideas and experiences of this fascinating text.

You can definitely count on a lively discussion. We look forward to seeing you there!
