A. Dean’s Office Update
Ellie Light shared that the Salary Compression issue went through and also that CLA has launched the interdisciplinary mentorship group.

B. CoNTTF Update
Tom Conway reported that a service audit is underway. The service audit is in response to CCAF’s express concern about ballooning service, unclear expectations etc. CoNTTF has decided to look at the Department Code’s around service to see what recommendations they can make to provide more clarity and healthy boundaries.

There has been a code change regarding CCAF who do not have a departmental home.
A Contract Committee, out of faculty Council and charged by Sue Doe, is considering a new model that can fund positions, like we do with TT, rather than fund classes, as we currently do, as a way of providing more job stability. Funding classes means departments have limited flexibility on hiring, rehiring, and guaranteed course loads. The Contract Committee made multiple recommendations to Faculty Council and has requested to continue to function as a committee this Spring.

Tom also indicated that there is currently legislation at the state level, sponsored by two state senators and two state representatives that would increase the number of years for a non-tenure track contract from 3-5 years. The bill in question is SB23-048.

C. Plan for March 10 service presentation to Council of Chairs
Ellie asked for volunteers to present the service document at the Council of Chairs meeting on March 10.

D. Discussion of position types (contract vs. continuing)
Ellie explained the differences between adjunct, continuing, and contract positions. After ten semesters, CCAF can approach their chairs and ask for a contract. However, there are no guarantees that a contract will be granted. There was a brief discussion about the benefits of having a contract v. remaining in a continuing status, and whether the main benefit is symbolic. There did seem to be agreement that the Colorado legislation extending contracts for non-tenure track faculty to five years would be a clear improvement.
